Music is such a big part of our lives. It is the fourth great material want of human nature with food coming in first. After food comes clothing, shelter, and then music. According to studies by Oxford University, music is the best mind trainer. Only 10% of students attending Oxford study music, however this ten percent takes 75% of all the school prizes and scholarships. Music assists children throughout their human development in different ways. We will explore how music affects our minds from childhood up to adulthood.
We all know how pleasing music can be to the ear. Tones are pleasing because they are vibrations of evenly spaced sound. A psychologist will tell you that anyone can play music. In fact there is no such thing as a tone-deaf human being, properly taught. Every child can play a musical instrument, and any small amount of musical training helps a child become a happier adult.
What’s great about music is it provides people with a wonderful means of self-expression. It gives one an emotional outlet that is never lost. Response to music arrives early in life. You may remember your child clanging on pots and pans, or maybe you did it yourself. This is the child experiencing the joy of music even early on and expressing themselves with rhythm and sound.
Music class is just as important in school as Geometry, Biology, Trigonometry, and all those courses filled with information you probably don’t remember. Interestingly enough music students are almost always found at the head of their classes in other studies. Absolute coordination of eye, ear and hand is required of the music student. The young boys and girls who play an instrument never lack for company or amusement. They are usually the center of each group.
