There has been an increase in the amount of people wanting TVs that are bigger, better and of course more HD ready than their current sets. A possible reason for this may be the digital switchover prompting people to swap their old analogue sets for brand new up-to-date, HD ready ones – it’s the perfect excuse. The only problem that many people find is that there are so many TVs on the market to choose from. The only decision that you may not have to make anymore is whether you want an LCD screen or a plasma screen. Over the last couple of years, LCD TVs seem to have won the fight and come out on top, of course, it is still possible to buy a plasma TV and there’s nothing categorically wrong with them, but LCD TVs seem to be the most popular choice. This is good news as there are now so many models of television to choose from that the fewer decisions the better. This article discusses two very popular TVs around at the moment, one is a well-known favourite and one is a new model that claims to have some very impressive TV technology. The first TV is the Sony Bravia X4500. This brand has had a lot of success as of late and new and more updated models are popping up regularly. This X4500 model ranges from a 40-inch screen right the way through to a huge 55-inch screen. This Sony LCD TV also has six main speakers and two woofer speakers on the 55-ich model or four main speakers and 2 woofer speakers on the 46-inch model. This TV also sports four HDMI ports, a wireless DNLA connection and a USB port as well and for that added extra, the X4500 TVs also come with black or red speaker covers so that you can match your new prized possession with your living room. A TV that has just come out and is hoping to take away some of the limelight from Sony is Toshiba’s Regza ZV. This TV is said to have proprietary Resolution and up-scaling technology. This means that the TV can upgrade standard-definition quality television to “near-HD levels of clarity” by using a cell processor algorithm. This is quite some claim and could allow the viewer to watch quality, clear images from programmes that are not even being transmitted in HD quality. On top of this, the TV also comes in 42-inch and 46-inch screen sizes, is equipped with Toshiba’s Active Vision M100 HD 100Hz picture processing, has crisper blacks and whites with a softer transition between the two and Full HD 1920 x 1080p panels. This Toshiba LCD TV does sound like a very impressive set and is available to buy from the beginning of December; the 42-inch model will be on sale for £900.

You may not realize it, but you probably use an LCD device every day. If you own a laptop computer, a microwave oven, a modern thermometer, a CD player, or a digital watch, all these are LCD technology. LCD stands for “liquid crystal display.” Look at the numbers displayed on your microwave oven; do you see how crisp and clear they are? How about the dials and numbers on your digital watch? LCD technology beats the traditional cathode ray tube and projection TVs in clarity, resolution and sharpness. Not only is it virtually impossible to mount a clunky cathode ray tube TV on your wall, but tubes wear out quickly and the picture quality of projection TVs is notoriously poor.

For home entertainment purposes, most people are especially interested in LCD televisions. When LCD technology was first introduced, the prices of these TVs were typically very high. But in the past few years, LCD TV prices have dropped as the technology became widespread and affordable. Try this simple experiment: go to a large electronics store and ask the sales staff to show you an LCD TV and then a traditional cathode ray tube TV (if they even have one!). You’ll notice the picture superiority of the LCD immediately. Plus, LCD TVs are thinner, lighter, and use less power than cathode ray TVs. LCD TVs come in high definition (HD) compatible models that create an even sharper image, in thin, flat panel models, and widescreen models. Each type of these LCD TVs have specific advantages. For example, if you want an LCD TV in your bedroom but don’t have a lot of wall space, a flat panel model will serve you well. But in your living room, you’ll most likely want a TV that has high definition and a wide screen to set up your home theater components.

Thanks to the latest developments in technology, today LCD TVs are not only famous shopping items but have become more affordable too. However, many consumers are not sure which brand or model to go for.

The choice isn’t easy but if you are thinking of buying a new LCD TV, the following checklist might help:

Plasma TV or LCD TV?

LCD TVs have a liquid crystal display technology which provides a brighter and higher contrast picture. In general, LCD TVs have a higher resolution than Plasma TVs and are flicker free which makes them easy and comfortable to watch. In regard to the screen size Plasma TVs offer the advantage of a bigger size and are therefore ideal for business solutions and advertising purpose.

One can state that LCD TVs are much more common than Plasma TVs and most retailers offer a wider range.

A further advantage is the energy consumption. Test results showed that LCD TVs use less power than Plasma TVs which makes the LCD TV more attractive in times of rising energy bills.

Which size is best?

The size of the LCD TV screen has a major impact on the viewing experience. If the desired LCD TV is meant to replace the old TV in the living room, the screen size should be at least 32’’ screen or even better up to 50’’. This is simply because of the distance between the audience and the TV itself. On the other hand, LCD TVs for the kitchen or smaller bedrooms don’t need to be as big.

Which brand to buy?

The age of the traditional CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) is slowly withering away. The new ear Flat televisions have been gaining popularity in the past decade and now have fairly established themselves. The cost of the flat TVs have reduced and they are now well in the reach of common person. The LCD flat TV’s are a popular choice as they have enhanced display. LCD TVs are available in diverse screen sizes, the most popular being the range between 15-inches to 42-inches. The Plasma TVs on the other hand are available between sizes of 32-inches to 60-inches and above. They are preferred for large screen home theaters because they have a better contrast ratio than LCD TVs. Higher contrast enables brighter black and brighter white colors.

The LCD flat TVs have a backlit component which obstructs the natural light creating blacks thus giving a brighter image. If you have a room which is fairly bright the best flat TV to consider is a LCD TV. They come integrated with anti-glare screen material which doesn’t reflect light, giving bright images. The viewing angle of the flat TV might be a concern for some people as they have limited angle viewing as compared to CRT TVs. This means that above the listed viewing angle you will see a blurred image in the flat TVs. The viewing angle is usually wide enough and this doesn’t overshadow the advantages of a flat TV.

The Flat TVs are portable than the traditional CRT TVs. They are lightweight and can also be wall-mounted. The LCD TVs are the slimmest and even handier than Plasma TVs. The flat TVs consume power sensibly which saves on your electricity bills. The flat TVs, especially the LCD TVs take up less space and can be adjusted even a small setting.

There are several factors that you need to consider when you’re going to choose for an LCD TV. The price and size are the most important among these factors. It might be hard for you to know all the terms used when talking about LCD TVs but once you’ve started knowing these terms, you’ll see that it’s a tad easy.

When choosing an LCD TV, you should first think of the space available for it. Is your house large enough to accommodate a massive TV or not? Of course you should also consider if you want a big one or not. Some people, despite of the hugeness of their house do not want a big TV.

To help on deciding about the size of your TV, first you should measure the space in your house where the TV will be put. After knowing this, you’ll already know how big is the TV you can put up. Also, you need to consider about the placing of the furniture in your house. Can your guests watch programs from TV at ease? If not, then you should restyle the arrangement of things in your house. There will always be a better way.

Next, measure the distance of the seats allotted for the viewers from the TV. TV’s that are at least 35 inch need to be placed 10 feet away from the seats while the larger ones need to be farther. To illustrate, a TV which is 60 inch must be 15-20 feet away from the spectators or else, their eye sights might be damaged.

Consider also the viewing angle, that is, the angle of where in the TV can be watched from the side right before the quality of the images begins to break down. Some models of TVs have better angle viewing than the other ones.

Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) is so popularly recently because of the clearness it offers to its users. Even the picture that can be seen on it seems to be so perfect. We often hear from other people that LCD televisions’ lifespan is better than plasma TVs’. Yet, it does not necessarily mean that LCD TVs do not depreciate as it is still a thing. Everything in this world has its own life span. Similarly to diverse kinds of technologies, LCD TVs also undergo some technical problems and errors. In general, it works depending on the distortion and undoing the crystal.

Around 60,000 hours is the ordinary life span of an LCD TV but other manufacturers stated that their product can last up to 80,000 hours, depending on how the user controls or takes care of his LCD TV. The temperature of a room will greatly affect its life span. Some climatic circumstances and the repair conditions of the TV also have its own effect. Its display effects will decrease because of the day to day use. The reason of this is the continually lighting of LCD TVs by great lights that tend to make it less bright, akin to other technological things, as time goes by. In effect, pictures get dim.

From this, we can conclude that the most significant part of LCD TVs that should be taken care of is its light foundation. Manufacturers of LCD TVs should assure a warrantee to its consumers because this is the essential thing that wheels the effects of the images and its clearness.
