Light is an essential component for any photography. In fact, a photograph is really just recorded light. The quality of a photograph is determined by how the available light is handled. There are several ways to control the effect of light on the photographs.

The light meter of your camera tells you a lot. It tells you how much light it sees and how well it sees it. The camera gives readings based on the current settings on the camera, including the aperture settings, shutter speed and film speed. With the combination of these settings and the right exposure to light, great photographs can be created. This light meter device helps you measure light.

Pictures, diplomas, certificates and other printed artworks remind us of our achievements, hard labor or simply the happy moments in life. They deserve to be displayed on walls or on table tops always ringing a bell whenever we see them. Placing them on unique photo frames would extend their life span thus allowing them to last a little longer.

However, we have not really seen unique photo frames until just recently. The design of such frames have always been plain square or rectangular. And although there are variations in color, size and embossed patterns, they are not pretty much that of an innovation. The designs are stuck to the concept of apparently protecting whatever is cased in. And so the creations were either gold plated or crystal imbedded with a clear glass covering which we either hang at the wall or put in a stand. With luggage and camera gear packed in the van by 8 in the morning my new friends and I on my photography tour are off to our first destination, promising to be an outstanding adventure. The excitement is high with everyone getting to know each other and talking cameras and pictures on this their first day.

We are on our way to Arenal, an active volcano in Costa Rica, but there are a few stops along the way. First, we stop in Sarchi, famous for its tropical furniture, where magnificent, brightly decorated ox carts are made in an eighty plus year old water powered factory. From there, we drive to the little mountain town of Zarcero where the focal point is the old wooden church with its much-photographed double row of topiaries leading to its entrance. You can fill your camera’s memory card just at these two places with the colours and patterns in Sarchi and the fantastic shapes of the topiaries in Zarcero.  Read more...

Conducting photo tours in Costa Rica can be quite an experience because I never know what my group and I will encounter. Here is an entertaining event that occurred while we were traveling to one of our locations.

One of the pleasures of living in Costa Rica is that I can conduct Costa Rica Photo Tours for folks who want to visit and photograph exotic locations. Indeed, one of the destinations on the tour is the beautiful Osa Peninsula, the “most biologically intense place” on earth according to the National Geographic Society. We drive to this location through the little village of Ojochal, which is very close to my home.

Let me tell you about a unique way to move that some rural Costa Ricans still use. One day, when my photography group was passing through the village, we noticed a most unusual way of moving.
